Every space has a door for access, and when the soundproofing of the space is required, door is usually the weak spot. AcoustiCy offers soundproof door systems with high noise reduction rating.

Acoustic doors are made to block the noise between the rooms and provide the necessary level of overall soundproofing.

The door is fabricated using hardwood frame and a solid core, made of high-density sound absorbing materials in combination with special membranes and mass-loaded elements (acoustic core) and acoustic seals, which prevent the airborne noise to come through. We have several options of soundproofing doors with various noise reduction rating.

The main difference is the thickness of the door and the amount of airlock stages, as well as threshold system, which can be solid frame threshold or automatic threshold, where the application of the solid one is not possible.

To achieve better results, when extreme acoustic separation is needed – double door system should be installed.

AcoustiCy is a manufacturer of soundproof doors in Cyprus, made to fit your project.

Acoustic doors characteristics

Airlock seal

The main spot where the sound can penetrate is the gap between the door and the frame. We have two options of that airlock. There may be 2 or 3 points of contact (steps) equipped with a rubber seal.

Fall down threshold

Automatic threshold mechanism, which falls down when the door is closed, provides a seal between the bottom part of the door and the floor, when a solid threshold installation is not possible.

Finish Options

All doors are custom built to measure to fit cutomer needs. The acoustic core and frame structure provides the soundproofing properties, however, the finish may vary. We use paint, veneer and acoustic carpet finish options.

Why Standard Doors Fail Acoustically

A typical hollow-core interior door provides only about 20 dB of sound reduction. The weak points are well known:

  • Bottom gap — sound passes straight under the door
  • Perimeter gaps — even 1 mm of clearance dramatically reduces performance
  • Lightweight leaf — hollow construction vibrates and re-radiates sound on the other side

A proper soundproof door is engineered as a complete system: a heavy door leaf, multi-stage perimeter seals, and a threshold solution that closes the floor gap when the door is shut.

STC Ratings — What to Expect

Configuration STC Range Typical Use
Single leaf 66 mm + perimeter seals + drop seal 33–37 Offices, meeting rooms, private rooms
Single leaf 84 mm + perimeter seals + drop seal 41–45 Recording studios, home cinemas, server rooms
Double-leaf system (airlock with vestibule) 55+ Professional studios, broadcast rooms, high-isolation environments

For reference: STC 45 reduces normal speech (~60 dB) to roughly 15 dB on the other side — barely audible. STC 55+ delivered by a double-leaf airlock system approaches the isolation needed for broadcast and recording work.

What Affects Real-World Performance

A soundproof door’s lab-tested STC value only matters if the door is installed correctly. The most common reasons doors underperform:

  1. Perimeter seal compression — seals must compress evenly on all four sides; uneven gaps are acoustic shortcuts
  2. Drop threshold alignment — the automatic threshold must seat fully against the floor when the door closes
  3. Frame-to-wall sealing — sound bypasses the door entirely if the frame isn’t acoustically sealed to the surrounding wall
  4. Wall isolation — the wall the door sits in must match the door’s isolation; otherwise the wall becomes the weak point

A €2,500 acoustic door with a 5 mm misalignment performs worse than a €300 standard door with proper seals.

Custom-Built in Cyprus

Every door is built to your specific opening — no standard sizes. Typical lead time is approximately 4 weeks from order confirmation to delivery. You choose:

  • Single leaf (66 mm or 84 mm) or double-leaf airlock system
  • Finish: paint, veneer, or acoustic carpet — matched to your existing interior
  • Hardware, lock type, and optional vision panel (laminated acoustic glass)
  • Threshold: automatic drop-down or fixed neoprene

Door prices start from €1,900 for a complete door system (leaf, frame, seals, threshold). Installation is quoted separately based on site conditions.

Installation Services

We provide installation for every door we manufacture, because correct installation is what makes the door actually work. Our installation includes:

  • Plumb and aligned door fitting
  • Even perimeter compression on all four sides
  • Frame sealed to the wall with non-hardening acoustic sealant
  • Drop threshold calibrated to floor height
  • Final acoustic check before handover

Without proper alignment, perimeter seal contact, and frame-to-wall sealing, even the heaviest door will leak sound. This is why we strongly recommend installation by our team rather than third-party carpenters.

Common Applications

Recording studios • Home cinemas • Conference and meeting rooms • Server rooms • Medical and consultation rooms • Apartments facing busy streets or shared walls • Hotel and hospitality interiors • Broadcast and post-production facilities

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an acoustic door and a soundproof door?

The terms are used interchangeably in the industry. Both refer to doors engineered to block airborne noise transmission between rooms.

How much sound will a soundproof door actually block?

A door rated STC 45 reduces normal conversation (around 60 dB) to roughly 15 dB on the other side — barely audible. Higher STC values (55+ achievable with double-leaf systems) approach broadcast-grade isolation.

Can you match my existing interior doors?

Yes. The acoustic core handles the sound isolation; the visible finish (paint, veneer, colour, hardware) is fully customisable to match your existing interior.

Do I need a special wall to install a soundproof door?

The wall must match the door’s acoustic isolation, otherwise sound bypasses the door through the wall. We assess the wall as part of every project quote.

Can I have a glass vision panel in a soundproof door?

Yes — using laminated acoustic glass. Adding a vision panel reduces overall STC by a few dB compared to a solid door.

Do you ship outside Cyprus?
